Mr. Iain Packham Consultant shoulder and upper limb surgeon.
Mr Iain Packham is a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery with a specialist interest in shoulder and elbow problems and their treatment, both non-operative and surgical.
Mr Packham is a consultant at North Bristol NHS Trust, where he works in the Avon Orthopaedic Centre and the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital, Bristol.
Mr Packham works privately as part of the Sports and Orthopaedic Clinic, Bristol at the Spire Hospital, Bristol and at the Chesterfield Hospital, Nuffield Health, Bristol.
Mr Packham also provides an NHS Choose and Book service at the Spire Hospital, Bristol, as part of Bristol Shoulder Specialists Ltd..
Clinical Experience:
Mr Packham trained at Nottingham University before undertaking his Basic Surgical Training and then Specialist Orthopaedic Higher Surgical Training in the London region. He has undertaken Fellowships at The Cape Shoulder Institute, Cape Town and The Australian Institute of Musculoskeletal Surgery, Sydney, with a focus on the arthroscopic treatment of sports injuries. He has been awarded The Certificate of Completion of Training and is therefore listed on the General Medical Council Specialist Register.
Mr Packham is a Fellow of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow and a Member of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS), The European Society of Sports Traumatolgy Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) as well as the British Association of Surgery of the Knee (BASK). He is an Affiliate Member of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS).
Research:
Mr Packham has an active research interest including shoulder instability and dislocations, rotator cuff repair surgery, the management of clavicle and humeral fractures and injury of the acromioclavicular joint (ACJ). He has published on a number of subjects in the peer review literature including sports injuries, joint replacement and hospital infection.
Medico-legal Experience:

Teaching:
Mr Packham works in a teaching hospital and is responsible for the supervision and training of junior doctors, medical students, physiotherapists and nursing staff.
Mr Packham has been the Post Graduate Tutor for Trauma and Orthopaedic, responsible for the formal educational program for Specialist Orthopaedic Registrars in training.

Iain is married with two young sons. He maintains a keen sporting interest and has been involved competitively in a number of sports including athletics and rugby. He has international qualifications in sailing (RYA) and Scuba diving (PADI) and is a qualified ski instructor (BASI).
